Moms In Motion/At Home Your Way strives to create opportunities for all Virginians with disabilitiesThe Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) defines a person with a disability as a person who has a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activity. This includes people who have a record of such an impairment, even if they do not currently have a disability. It also includes people who do not have a disability but are regarded as having a disability. The ADA also makes it unlawful to discriminate against a person based on that person’s association with a person with a disability. More to be fully included in their communities and exercise control over their own lives. We have several divisions across the state and work hard at connecting individuals with developmental disabilities with resources and providers in the communities where they live and work.
Ultimately, we aim to be a voice to ensure our legislators create responsive policies and systems and help communities across Virginia build capacity to support and include people with developmental disabilities.
This year’s Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month takes place at a particularly important, pivotal time as Virginia navigates the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
It is our desire that everyone will make a point to acknowledge the vital contributions of the Developmental Disability community and take action to shape a more equitable future for Virginians with disabilities.
How can you help? You can get involved throughout the month by accessing resources on Moms In Motion/At Home Your Way’s website and social media channels. Moms In Motion/At Home Your Way recognizes the significance of Developmental Disabilities every day and we hope you will join us in doing the same.
