Amanda lives in Roanoke, VA with her husband and two children. She has been very involved in the special needs community since her son was born a micro preemie (at 24 weeks gestation). Going from an extensive 7 month stay in the NICU, and then transitioning to a home that was set up like hospital room, including dealing with a revolving door of nurses and therapists, was quite the life changing experience. Learning about all of the available resources and keeping up with the changing policies and the “alphabet soup” of the medical and educational world was quite the undertaking, aside from just being a mom. The best part of this journey is that Amanda has met some amazing people.
Amanda facilitates the Special Families special needs support group, as well as holds an active role on the Roanoke City Special Education Advisory Committee. She is excited to be part of the Moms In Motion team, so that she can stay on the forefront of the information and continue helping other families.
